Soundings: Margaret Cogwell & Ellen Driscol at Kentler International Drawing Space

“Soundings” from The Red Hook Waterfront-

My “soundings” are the result of many months of walking and exploring the Red Hook waterfront- looking, listening, and wondering. Much like an archaeologist, I became intrigued with the fragmented remains of infrastructure and industry emerging from this harbor’s waters - its tides alternately revealing and then concealing the histories of these decaying forms. Like Rome or Pompeii, some ruins are now monuments while others go unrecognized for their service in a previous civilization. My drawings acknowledge loss, pay homage to their defiant remains- their rusted, twisted, and dark decaying beauty.
